Today I received a Master of Music degree in Jazz Pedagogy from @univmiami @frostschoolum! I am very grateful to the faculty, staff, and students at UM who made my time here so enjoyable.

Julian Family Fiddle Camp ‘22 is in the books! M

Julian Family Fiddle Camp ‘22 is in the books! Many thanks to the folks at JFFC and the San Diego Folk Heritage for putting it all together. Great folks making music together in a scenic camp tucked in the mountains above San Diego.

5: Daniel Plane, Caleb Klauder, @bruce_molsky and @reebwillms at Friday’s concert
6-9: walking around Old Town San Diego, land that originally belonged to the Kumeyaay people. I enjoyed exploring and reading about the area’s history off some plaques scattered around the tattered buildings. The white one is the oldest church in old town, and was restored by the WPA in the 30s.
10: Clouds somewhere over the Gulf of Mexico.

I am very excited to be returning to the stage as

I am very excited to be returning to the stage as a bandleader for the first time in SEVEN MONTHS!! Last time didn’t go so well — I got in a car accident the morning of a gig in august and ended up having a broken hand. Through not being able to play at all for a while and then sporadically during PT, I turned my attention to writing. I have a bunch of new music I am recording tonight at the gig and I feel very fortunate to do it with David, Tim and Max M.

Also, come hear me play my new @think_ns NXTa upright through some pedals!! Going to be real fun.

Very excited to be a part of this new virtual concert series put together by @mymusic.match ! Been working on some thought-provoking tunes for this one for a few weeks. Hoping that folks come away from this gig (and future ones) feeling more empathetic and compelled to act now, when we all need to be actively contributing to making our country safer for black and brown people, as well as safer for those who are most vulnerable to COVID-19. I will be donating a percentage of the proceeds to organizations that are doing this important work.

I am also honored to be sharing the bill with some dear pals, @kellyschenk and @martyjquinn. Both are phenomenal musicians and I can’t wait to hear what they’ve put together!!

Very pleased to announce that this June, I'll be playing bass in a collaborative big band with students from the Frost School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London, directed by John Daversa and Nick Smart, which will be performing some unreleased works by Kenny Wheeler in the UK and recording them at Abbey Road!!! Looking forward to eating some real bangers and mash and making some great memories and music.

Playing The Vortex Jazz Club in London on Monday, June 22 and somewhere in Birmingham on Friday June 26.
Looking forward to traveling and playing with my fellow Frosties David Mason, Seth Crail, Michael Dudley, Jason Charos, Alex Ridout, Eli Feingold, Jered Byford, Leo Folsom and Marcello Carelli.
